Review; Kingdom Voyager Class Blaster & Eject
Transformers are very famously known for being cars that turn into robots, but today we will look at one of the few examples where they don't have a vehicle mode, the Autobot Communications Officer, Blaster! Blaster is hip and happening bot who grew a love for earth music when he arrived here, especially Rock 'n' Roll, and his down to earth attitude is what I really liked about him from the Original Cartoon, that and his rivalry with the Decepticon Comms Officer Soundwave. So I am happy today to have a look at a CHUG scale Blaster and his Cassettebot partner Eject.
Blaster here is available as part of the Kingdom toyline and the Legacy toyline. Similar to Core class hot rod the only difference between these releases is the box art, and similar to Hot Rod I am reviewing the Kingdom release as it was at a cheaper price. Box art is that of the usual Kingdom release, Beautiful art piece of Blaster with the volcanic prehistoric earth in the back drop. Back of the box we have the usual bot to alt mode and number of steps for both Blaster and Eject.
Out of the box, these are fantastic toys, both highly detailed. Accessory wise we get Blasters Electro-Scrambler rifle which is a nice addition on top of the cassette bot. Speaking of the little bot, we will start with Eject before moving on to the main show (apologies Eject stans).
This wee bot is very beautifully sculpted and is a new mould I believe, when it was announced I was expecting a repaint of the Frenzy/Rumble mould but no, good on you HasTak. This is a great mould that is very well articulated. Head, elbows and knees all on balljoints with the hips and shoulders on pegs but still allows for a great amount of articulation on such a small toy. Transformation is just fold up the arms and legs and it's done. It is a beautifully done sculpt with transparent blue and painted details.
Blaster is a fantastic toy, great articulation and moulding on the figure. One thing I feel this head sculpt would have really benefited from is light piping. really great head sculpt and I feel light piping would have been possible. On the torso Blaster has the cassette compartment moulded and when the play buttons are pressed the compartment opens so Eject can be placed inside. If you have any of Soundwave's or Doubledealer's cassette partners they can also be fitted in.
Transformation is nice and easy but also very well engineered. I was expecting the transformation, as well as the mould, to be similar to Soundwave. Where they do share similarities one of the nice big differences is that Blasters knees open to hid the arms from robot mode, as well as some nifty points on the arms to allow them to fold up. Once you complete transformation you get a fantastic looking stereo. I love this sculpt, as alluded to at the beginning there something about Blaster turning into a cassette playing stereo, similar to soundwave turning into a cassette player is incredibly interesting to me.
Overall Blaster and his partner Eject are fantastic toys and I would highly recommend them, if you haven't picked them up yet you really should.
