Top of the Bots; Top 10 War for Cybertron Toys Part 1

 War for Cybertron has been and gone now and I have gotten (almost) all the toys from the range that I wish to get, so today I take a look back at what I consider to be the best ten toys from the line. Some rules before we start;

1. By "War for Cybertron" I am encompassing all the releases branded as such, which include; Seige, Earthrise, Kingdom, Netflix Trilogy, Netflix Spoiler packs, Buzzworthy Bumblebee and Generations Selects.

2. This is my list. This is based purely on my opinions and the toys from the line that I own at the time of writing. If you feel any different or feel I missed something, let me know, it could potentially be I slept on a great toy.

With that out of the way lets get stuck in! Starting with:

10. Earthrise Cliffjumper

Starting off with a bit of a controversal take, I adore this toy. In robot mode we have a fantastic this fantastic, G1 styled look. The toy has great possability and comes with a great accessory that can act as the rocket launcher from the pilot or split into dual pistols for Cliffjumper to go John Woo.

Transformation is a relatively easy affair, which I find to a lot of fun. Once transformed we have a beautiful rendition of a maybe Porsche 924 in striking red. This toy is one of my favourites and simple transformation, accessories and posing are why I love to play with it and why I feature it heavy in my photography.

9. Earthrise Astrotrain

Another controversal toy, but I love my big dummy triple changer. Astrotrain is a character very dear to my heart, mostly because one of his alt modes is a train, and a f*$&ing love trains. The second alt mode being a space shuttle is also a huge bonus. Looking at the robot mode I love all the detailing that is included and the G1 paint scheme. One thing I do wish is that the toy had the toy accurate chest piece, just to add a bit more colour.

Transformation is a bit tricky but overall easy to get the hang off. Alt mode one presents us with a space shuttle. I like this mode though the big chunky bit just behind the cockpit does put me off it a bit. The accessories this toy comes with are phenominal. you get a load of guns, which true to the combat system, can be combined. Astrotrain also has an accessory that can form into the launch pad for his shuttle mode.

The final and best alt mode though has to be Astrotrains train mode. I am in love with this, it is fantastic, everything about is amazing. There are rolling wheels, ports for attaching the guns to, and the accessory that turned into the launch pad for the shuttle turns into the coal tender. Overall this is an amazing toy, I was happy to pay leader price for it and is a cherished part of my collection.

8. Kingdom Galvatron

I love this toy, I really do, but there is one thing about it, which is why it is scoring so low, and I will get to that. The robot mode is everything I want from a G1 Galvatron. He looks the part and he looks menacing. I love the colour scheme and I don't mind the battle damage throughout the toy, I know it was un-presidented in the Kingdom line but I feel it breaks up, what would otherwise be, the solid purple colour.

I am also incredibly happy that we have the cannon alt mode and not a tank alt mode as so many of the recent Galvatron releases have went for. and this mode is stunning, fantastic, almost as if it was ripped out of the silver screen of the Transformers movie. The issue I have with this toy is getting it from robot to alt mode. I find it is incredibly tricky. Granted there is some great engineering involved to get the fantastic modes that we have, but it just is not a mode I enjoy. I fell that there some really finnicky steps to transformation, and that has hindered it's position in this chart.

7. Buzzworthy Bumblebee Origins Bumblebee

Probably one of the least expected releases to come out so late in the War for Cybertron line was that of Origins Bumblebee. In all honesty, would have expected a Bumblebee toy based on that of his alt mode from the pilot of the original TV show. It's bizarre. The robot mode looks fantastic with just a bit of kibble around the shins which I find excusable.

Transformation took some time for me to get used to. Lots of flipping and panel usage that I just wasn't use to, but fantastic engineering put into it to make both modes achievable. Once you get to the alt mode oh boy! I love it, retro-futuristic alien/sci-fi spaceship/sports car vibe. Accessory wise we have some great inclusions, there is Bumblebees pistol, along with, for some reason, Sideswipes jumppack(?), and last but not least, the Energon bars. I love this toy and I love that it was readily available and that I have one Bumblebee in my collection thanks to this release.

6. Netflix Spoiler Pack Ultra Magnus

This was one of the first toys in the Transformers line that I got having gotten back into Transformers with War for Cybertron. Ultra Magnus is a character I've always liked, so having an up to date version with a G1 inspired robot mode was a must have. The robot mode is fantastic and its great to have a toy of Ultra Magnus that has the inner robot.

Transformation is parts forming heavy but I really like it. The alt mode going for the Robots in Disguise 2001 alt mode of Ultra Magnus was very welcome, and really added the Cybertronian feel that seige was going for. Being the spoiler version it comes with an array of weapons along with Rung. I will be picking up the SG version of Ultra Magnus just to have a Delta Magnus

And that's for the bottom five, check back next time to see my Top 5 on the list!
