Review; Marvel Legends Spider-Man Retro Hammerhead

The 1994 Spider-Man: The Animated Series is up there as one of the most definitive takes on the character and for many people, myself included, is the basis of their Spider-Man knowledge. The show is, by all means, the Marvel equivalent to Batman The Animated Series. Of course  the TV Show brought with it a toyline, based on characters from the show.

Which brings us to what we are going to look at today, as Hasbro have been releasing updated toys based on those released on the original line. Personally I am all for it as I will gladly take the nostalgia hit of holding an updated version of a toy from my childhood or one I coveted as a child but never had. Today we look at a character I've always wanted a toy of, Marvels Hammerhead

Hammerhead is a gangster who, after being severely beaten, had a metal plate put into his head, that gave him a flat top near indestructible skull. With this he did what anyone would, and used his head to deal with his enemies, literally, charging headfirst into his enemies, and into my heart.

I love the packaging that this figure comes in, real hard nostalgia hit. Across the top we have the Spider-Man Animated Series logo which is a beautiful 90's callout, along with the animated Spider-Man perched ontop. In the top left of the backing card we have the 90's Marvel Comics logo. The main body of the packaging is done in a neon styled silhouette roughly in line of that of the Manhatten skyline. A real beautiful and great throwback to the 90's.

Back of card we have the Spider-Man and Marvel logo as well as a really nice Comic style piece of Hammerhead along with a bio on the character and a outline of the toy with accessories. As well as this we have something I love to see, a listing of the other wave mates.

Hammerhead himself though is a fantastic toy to have in hand. The most recent Marvel Legends toy I've handled since this would have been the Guardians of the Galaxy Groot BAF and this is a major improvement over those toys.

Hammerheads head sculpt is on point, exactly as I remember the character. The sculpt sticks to the flat head but also adds a menacing look to Hammerhead's face, making him someone you wouldn't want to mess with if he was real.

Hammerhead has been protrayed in this stunning navy pinstripe suit, with a black shirt and red tie that really gives Hammerhead that mob look. I really love this, it all comes together so great.

Articulation wise the head is on a ball joint, the shoulders can rotate fully and lift. Elbows are on a double joint allowing for a great bend. Hands are on ball joints with a small amount of forward and back. Hips go forward and back 90 degrees with some outward lift. Double jointed knees allowing for a great bend and feet on a ball joint allowing for great positioning.

Hammerhead comes with two sets of hands, a pair of fists, with knuckle dusters on the left first, and a pair of open hands. Hammerhead also comes with a baseball bat for some Mafia administration work, if you catch my drift.

Overall, Hammerhead is an amazing toy and great to have a ground level enemy for spiderman that isn't a super powered villian.
