A Menasor to Society, Transformers Legacy Stunticons Review

 Combiners are some of the biggest, most powerful bots in Transformers and some of the most iconic and fan favourite characters leaving such an impression that they've appeared in most Transformers media. Today we look at one such combiner team from G1, The Stunticons, starting with;

Dragstrip

Ok, so, I'm not going to do into too great a depth with Dragstrip as I have already covered him in a previous post, which you can read here.

Sufficient to say that Dragstrip is an outstanding figure, great range of posing, great detail, easy and memorable transformation and a definite pick up.

Wildrider

This is a great wee toy, great articulation, great design, fun and memorable transformation. The detailing is fantastic.

The robot mode is a fantastic design with a great looking head sculpt, though the all grey is a bit on the bland side. Articulation is everything you can expect of a Deluxe Class toy. Able to achieve all the poses you could want from him.

Vehicle mode is stunning, real 80s sports car vibe that really captures the essence of the Ferrari 308 GTB. This is a beautiful looking car mode.

Accessory wise he comes with two blasters that thanks to Evo-fusion can combine to form a double barreled blaster. The blasters are stored on top of the boot of the vehicle mode, similar to Dragstrip.

Dead End

Next up on the Legacy Stunticon tour we have Dead End, the cheery one of the group.

This is essentially a heavy retool of Dragstrip, in the sense that the transformation engineering is almost identical and the lower half appears to be mostly the same as Dragstrip with only the boot of the car being the new mould, but that makes it a great foundation for a great toy.

Dead End is just as fun to play with as Dragstrip with all the articulation you could need. The Colours really pop and he has some great panel detailing. He also has an easy and fun transformation.

Once transformed though, eh.

It's accurate to the Porsche 928, as accurate as they can get anyway, just not a car I'm a fan of unfortunately.

Sorry not sorry

He does come with two blasters which surprised me by not being the same blasters Dragstrip came with, so bonus points for that.

Breakdown

The Stunticon that describes my mental state at the end of the work week.

This was a controversial you when it was announced as Breakdown is just a straight up repaint of Wildrider with a spoiler accessory, but it is still a great toy.

Robot mode looks great and is fun to mess about with, t he white and blue combo looks stunning and the detailing is great.

Transformation is the same as Wildrider and a fun process, but clamping that windshield into place is scary at times.

Once transformed we get this beautiful sports car mode, and this is where the controversy lies. As a straight repaint of Wildrider, Breakdown's vehicle mode is more like a Ferrari 380 GTB instead of a Lamborghini Countach, which is understandable, it would have made a more distinct group to have for different cars, but don't we have enough Lambos at this point? (Well I don't have one yet but you get what I mean).

I like the vehicle mode, I think the white suits the mold and the support helps make it a bit more distinct, but the thing that really helps Breakdown stand out is that his weapons can be stored discreetly in his vehicle mode, unlike his other three partners.

An irony in this is Breakdown is the one Megatron cuts in two when creating the Stunticons, but this mold is one of the four that can't split in two.

Motormaster

Last of the Legacy Stunticons we have their fearless leader, Motormaster... Master

Motormaster comes in at Commander Class as he will form the bulk of what is to come later on, though Motormaster himself only stands at voyager height, keeping him in line with the War for Cybertron Optimus Prime toys.

Detailing on the figure is fantastic and very loyal to the animation design of Motormaster. Articulation is everything you would expect or hope for from a Commander priced Voyager, only one gripe I have is that you can't open the hands! Really surprised there was no where in the budget for that.

Transformation is a fun and interesting process with a fair bit of twists on the ole lorry transformation, but it all works smoothly.

Once transformed we have this stunning almost Kenworth K100 Aerodyne lorry, and I love it. It looks stunning and the colours bring out everything about the truck. It also scales perfectly with the rest of the Stunticons.

Also included in the box is Motormaster's Trailer. With looks the part but it's a bit on the short end for my liking. Within the trailer though is the storage for Motormaster's accessories, not much else though in trailer mode, it is unfortunately solid for the most part and not designed to carry vehicles like Primes.

The Trailer though can be transformed into this mighty base mode! Which is nothing like the original Motormaster repair bay base mode, but I'm sure someone will find a way to replicate it.

Menasor

And finally in our journey, we have Menasor!

This is my first ever Combiner and it is an interesting start. Unlike the Combiners of Combiner Wars, the frame of Menasor is made from Motormaster's Trailer, with the rest of the Stunticons attached.

Transformation has some interesting steps, with the majority of the work involved in transforming Motormaster into the upper torso. The legs are designed with doing loaded cap fillers that show an under car detail when Breakdown and Wildrider and attached. The Arms have the most interesting mechanic, where Dragstrip and Dead End can be attached to their respective arms, then it can be bent in half making them split due to the pegs that attach them. Just a shame they never found a use with the cannon tower with Menasor.

Articulation is top notch, arms have no real limitation, one bend is slightly limited due to the bulk of the shins. Only issues I have that relate to this are the pegs for the legs don't fully click on, meaning they pop out when I try to pose him, and due to the amount of parts in the arms to achieve transformation some parts on the arms keep popping loose, seems to be common when you get figures this size. Also the hands are just solid fists with 5mm ports, hand articulation would have been a very welcome feature.

The figure itself though looks astonishing, really looks the part. It is a great size and the detailing is fantastic, maybe use a bit more colour to break it up but we can see that on the upcoming box set version.

Over all it is a great set of toys and really fits in with the War for Cybertron/Legacy collection, not sure I could justify the full price though, I was lucky and managed to get all but Wildrider at discounted price, not sure the box set would justify the extra paint applications.
