Hasbro Were So Preoccupied With Whether Or Not They Could, They Didn’t Stop To Think If They Should, Legacy Evolution Toxitron G2 Grimlock
I unfortunately missed out on Studio Series 86 Grimlock, but thankfully Hasbro has given those who missed it not one but two repaint options, so Today let's look at Transformers Legacy Evolution Toxitron Collection G2 Universe Grimlock (another long winded Walmart exclusive subline)
I love the Toxitron Collection box art, it is amazing and so much easier to make it the characters than the standard Legacy Evolution box art. Out of the box Grimlock shows what it means to be Leader Class, no voyager with a trailer or needless accessory for the budget to go to like Blitzwing.
Grimlock is done up in his cancelled G2 "Tigerstripe" colours, as us the theme of the Toxitron Collection, to bring us the cancelled repaints of the 90s. This colour scheme looks fantastic on this toy, I was worried it would be too yellow but the black, blue and pink parts really help break it up, btw I really love that shade of blue and it has a slight metallic hint to it.
Articulation in robot mode is everything you could need. The panels on the back can move to allow for full arm movement, great bend in the elbows and knees, he even has wrist rotation!
Transformation is rather simple and easy to remember, which is great about it as a complex transformation shouldn't be needed to achieve such a great looking robot and alt mode. The more impressive part is how well it is hidden in both modes, the only hollow part in robot mode is in the forearms where the fists go, all other parts fold out.
Once transformed we get this fantastic giant yellow T-Rex, and yeah I love it, didn't think I would but I do. On the tail you have these fantastic metallic blue stripes, which would have been nicer had they gone further up the back but still great.
One of the differences between this and the 86, which I completely welcome, is the use of transparent plastic on the neck, which means you can see all the amazing internal detail that was made for this part, who knows, maybe we will get a toy accurate release of Grimlock with a clear neck piece.
Articulation in this mode is to notch, the robot shoulders act as hip joints in this mode, and the dino legs/robot arms are designed to be able to bend both directions sure to the arms facing different directions between robot and alt mode. The tiny T-Rex arms are on ball joints so they are free to move around. The head can rotate and has a 3mm peg in the mouth so you can add boost effects!
Accessory wise Grimlock only comes with his Blaster, which can store by clipping into where the tail starts on his back. The 86 release came with a rather disappointing Wheelie, the other that held that Wheelie are still on this copy, unfortunately there isn't a way to clip 86 Core Class Wheelie onto these, but he can sit in the back, somewhat.
Over all this is an amazing toy, wether you have 86 Grimlock or not, this should be on your pick up list for sure, I have found myself transforming it back and forth multiple times.
