Review; Transformers Legacy Velocitron Speedia 500 Collection Diaclone Universe Burn Out

Previously we took a look at a character from the Transformers who was based on a design from the Transformers predecessor Diaclone, Lift-ticket. Lift-Ticket was based on the Diaclone colour scheme for what would become Hoist. Todays Character is also based on a Diaclone paint scheme and the partner of Lift-Ticket in Transformers Fiction, Burn Out.

Burn Out is based on the black licensed Honda City Turbo from the Diaclone line, but unlike with Lift-Ticket, the toy wasn't repainted for Transformers 1980's toyline, the Honda City Turbo Diaclone toy came in five colours; silver, black, red, orange and blue, the blue toy going on to become Skids, and the other colours all being added to the Transformers lore later down the line. So let's take a look at the latest offering of this toy.

Packaging keeps in line with what we have seen so far of the Velocitron Speedia 500 Collection. The nice primarily blue box with neon stripes and racing markings dotted throughout. The front of the box is open window showing the toy in alt mode, with a nice art piece of Burn Out in robot mode to the side. Back of the box we have the product shots in both modes along with the number of steps needed for transformation, and on the side we have a close up of the artwork from the front. I really adore these art pieces we have getting lately and would love to see more of these.

Out of the box we have Burn Out in her alt mode, and I love this, I really do. As a wannabe boy racer at heart, I love these Japanese compact city cars. There is very nice detailing with The main part of the body being painted transparent plastic bar the windows and a sun roof. As I noted earlier this is a compact car and it is small. The black and red deco really suits this toy, as with most Transformers toys, it slaps harder when you apply a black and red paint scheme. in this mode you can also open the car doors, due to Transformation, which is always a nice feature to have.

Transformation is nice and simple, once you understand how to transform it. I have to admit there were some things in the instructions that just seemed difficult to read, but once I had it fully transformed the first time I understood what needed to be done and it's easy to do now. There are some really nice engineering technics, such as the part that becomes the shin remains open in the alt mode to for an underside to the vehicle, the rear wheels pop into the underside of what will become the feet, and popping the bonnet down over the shoulders to reveal the head instead of having to pop it out of the bonnet.

Weapon storage

Once fully transformed we have the robot mode and I dig it. I love it when a carbot just has the full bonnet as it's chest. The face sculpt is magnificent, I am really starting to prefer faceplates over mouths for robots. Once again, as with the alt mode, the black and red deco really pops on this toy. Articulation is everything you would expect with the modern mainline and I have yet to encounter any hinderances with the movement. All the kibble is perfectly placed as to not interfere with movement.

Proudly sitting on the bonnet, we have the Autobot insignia. I bring that up as I have seen there are some who prefer Diaclone nods to not have insignia as it doesn't belong in Diaclone. Personally, I don't mind it and I think it is great to have as we know where these characters stand in the Transformers world. The one issue I do have, is most of the Diaclone Characters are Autobots, which I get from a Diaclone stand point, they are human piloted Mech and it is more difficult to understand why a human would side with Decepticons, which is especially the case with Lift-Ticket and Burn Out, as in their original appearance in the Timelines comics, they were human piloted.

Got to love G1 poses

Overall this is a fantastic toy and I highly recommend it. if you come across this or Skids you should pick them up. I am probably going to buy Skids even though I don't usually buy multiples of a mould. In fact I am actually wishing that we get to see this mold used for all the Diaclone nods mention earlier, the silver (Crosscut), red (Reboost) and orange (Screech) and I can't see it happening but I would definitely pick up a green Skids if they did it.
